Stress. It makes your heart pound, your breathing quicken and your forehead sweat. But while stress has been made into a public health enemy, new research suggests that stress may only be bad for you if you believe that to be the case. Psychologist Kelly McGonigal urges us to see stress as a positive, and introduces us to an unsung mechanism for stress reduction: reaching out to others.

  1. Cortisol is an anti inflammatory
S is good because it mobilizes your body and prepares you to act and it’s good because that’s how u get ur needs met or be heard
OXYTOCIN IS A S HORMONE and make u reach out to other and tell people how u feel. It strengthens your heart.
All benefits of oxytocin are enhanced when u seek support or help someone else.
Body has mechanism for s resilience and that’s connection.
My anxious attachment style is good because it makes me reach out to connect. So it’s good and it doesn’t damage me at all.
Your heart beating fast and muscles tensing is giving you energy to handle life’s challenges. And going for meaning in your life and trusting yourself to handle the s along the way is the best mindset and it’s better than trying to avoid any s. The s won’t hurt you because you’re going after meaning and acting on your values. You’re being genuine.

  2. Nice talk. But here’s the contradiction: You said stress is good because it prepares you to act.

But if I think that way, my stress goes down, so it no longer motivates me to act.

The catch is: more stress → better preparation, but better preparation → less stress.
